The short version

Big-city services at some of the lowest rents of any major Spanish city.

Murcia is a university and market city in the middle of Spain’s most productive farmland, the huerta. Daily life is Spanish, relaxed and good value.

The Mar Menor and the Costa Cálida beaches are around 45 minutes away, and the AVE now links the city with Madrid.

Murcia suits you if

  • You want a big, affordable Spanish city
  • You want everyday life in Spanish, not a resort
  • You want two airports in reach

Look elsewhere if

  • You want to walk to the beach
  • You want a big English-speaking community (that is the coast nearby)
  • Hot inland summers would wear you down
