The short version

One name, two very different places.

Orihuela city is inland: a cathedral, churches and a historic centre in the Vega Baja farmland, and the birthplace of the poet Miguel Hernández.

Orihuela Costa is a separate stretch of coast with urbanisations, golf courses and some of the largest British and northern European communities in Spain.

Orihuela suits you if

  • You want golf, beaches and English-speaking neighbours (the coast)
  • You want historic Spanish town life (the city)
  • Murcia airport suits your flights home

Look elsewhere if

  • You want one walkable town with everything in it
  • You do not want to depend on a car

The trade-off

The city and the coast are far apart.

Decide which Orihuela you mean before you look at property. Most coastal urbanisations need a car for daily life.
