2026 has brought real tightening. A plan built on outdated blogs will fail.
Both visas look simple on paper: hit an income threshold, gather documents, submit an application. In practice, 2026 has brought real changes. Consulates are scrutinising bank statement consistency far more closely than before. The Non-Lucrative Visa’s ban on any form of work — including remote work for a foreign employer — is now being enforced more strictly. Processing timelines regularly run three to six months once document preparation, apostilles, and appointment shortages are included.
