The short version

A capital city with Andalusian life at its centre, and rents well below Málaga.

Seville is the capital of Andalusia, with a cathedral, the Alcázar and the Archive of the Indies all on the UNESCO list. Daily life is Spanish first: tapas, festivals, and evenings that start late.

Flats cost noticeably less than on the Costa del Sol, the AVE puts Madrid a morning away, and universities and hospitals give the city a stable, year-round economy.

Seville suits you if

  • You want a real Spanish city, not a resort
  • You want city services and culture at Andalusian prices
  • You need fast trains to Madrid

Look elsewhere if

  • You cannot handle long, very hot summers (July and August regularly pass 40°C)
  • You want to live by the sea (the nearest beaches are about an hour away)
  • You want a large English-speaking community

Where people live

Where newcomers usually look.

Triana

Across the river: ceramics, markets and its own strong identity.

Los Remedios

Residential and orderly, close to the Feria ground.

Nervión

Modern, central and practical, with shopping and the train station nearby.

Santa Cruz and the centre

Beautiful old lanes, and busy with visitors.

The trade-off

The summer heat is the real test.

Seville holds Spain’s highest reliably recorded temperature (46.6°C). Air conditioning is not optional, and many families spend part of August at the coast.
