GULF TO EUROPE · RELOCATING YOUR FAMILY
From building a career in the Gulf, to building a home in Europe.
An honest look at the process in 2026, including one major change worth knowing upfront.
THE ROUTE THAT CLOSED
Spain’s Golden Visa, residency through buying property, closed to new applications in April 2025. Build your plan around the routes that remain.
THE REALISTIC PATHS NOW
The same routes as any non-EU professional, with Gulf-specific considerations.
- Digital Nomad Visa: your work continues remotely for a company or clients outside Spain.
- Non-Lucrative Visa: funded by investments, savings or passive income.
- Standard work visa: a job offer from a Spanish or EU employer willing to sponsor.
WHAT IS DIFFERENT FROM THE GULF
Three things most content ignores.
- Income needs restructuring, not just documenting. Tax-free salaries, housing allowances and benefits do not translate cleanly into what a Spanish visa expects.
- Gulf residency carries no weight. You apply as a citizen of your country of origin, generally through your home country’s Spanish consulate.
- Distance from extended family. Including children’s visits to grandparents.
THE HONEST TRADE-OFFS
Model the tax shift first.
Leaving tax-free income for Spain’s tax system is a real financial change. The Costa del Sol has a growing Gulf-connected community, but smaller than the networks in Dubai or Doha at first.
Coaching and guidance only, not legal advice. Not an immigration lawyer or agent. Every pathway goes through the official channel of the destination country.
