Who this fits best
Costa Blanca is one of Spain’s classic international destinations, built over decades into one of the country’s most comfortable places to settle for families and retirees from across the UK, Northern Europe, and beyond, without ever feeling like a bubble cut off from genuine Spanish life. It offers some of Spain’s best overall value, particularly in smaller towns like Alicante itself, alongside real beach access and an established rhythm of community life that newer destinations simply haven’t had time to build yet.
The honest trade-offs
The established, English-speaking nature of the community that makes Costa Blanca so comfortable for newcomers is, for some families, also a mild trade-off: full immersion in Spanish language and culture takes more deliberate effort here than somewhere like Valencia or Barcelona, simply because it’s genuinely possible to get by without much Spanish at all. For families prioritising deep cultural and language immersion above community and comfort, that’s worth weighing honestly.
