Up to 20% of income
Validity
Up to 3 years, renewable
WHAT ACTUALLY QUALIFIES
Built for people already working remotely.
- At least three months of employment or freelance history before applying.
- Stable income well above the minimum. Consulates scrutinise bank statement consistency; thin margins invite questions.
- Processing: 4 to 6 months through a consulate including document preparation, or about 20 business days from inside Spain.
A NOTE FOR UK AND US APPLICANTS
Social security cover makes a real difference.
UK applicants: an A1 certificate from HMRC confirms UK social security cover, and most consulates accept it. US applicants: the US–Spain agreement does not cover remote work in the same way, and the SSA rarely issues an equivalent certificate.
THE HONEST TRADE-OFFS
Not for picking up local clients.
The 20% cap on Spanish-source income means this visa is not for entering the Spanish job market. Processing lengthened in 2026 because of appointment shortages at the fingerprint (TIE) stage.
THE TAX QUESTION
The Beckham Law may apply.
Qualifying arrivals can opt for a flat 24% on Spanish-sourced income up to €600,000 a year, for the arrival year plus five more. You must apply within six months of registering with Spanish social security. Take advice from a qualified tax professional.
Coaching and guidance only, not legal advice. Not an immigration lawyer or agent. Every pathway goes through the official channel of the destination country.
