The short version

A real town all year, with sandy beaches north and rocky coves south.

Dénia has a castle, a busy harbour and a food scene famous for its red prawns. Long sandy beaches run north towards Oliva, while Les Rotes to the south is rocky and clear.

It sits at the top of the Jávea-Dénia-Altea school corridor, with international and bilingual options nearby.

Dénia suits you if

  • You want a lively town that does not empty in winter
  • Island weekends by ferry appeal to you
  • You want schools in the Jávea-Dénia corridor

Look elsewhere if

  • You fly often and want a short airport run (Alicante is closer)
  • You want a big-city job market

Money

What living here costs

ItemTypical cost (2026)
Flat of 60 m²€830 a month
Family flat of 90 m²€1,250 a month
Utilities and internet€110–170 a month

Flat sizes use asking rents on idealista for September 2026 (Dénia €13.9 per m²; Spain average €15.1). Signed rents are often a little lower, and furnished, sea-view or new-build homes cost more. Other figures are indicative ranges for planning, not quotes.

The trade-off

About an hour or more to either airport.

Valencia and Alicante airports are both a drive away. Plan for that if family visits are frequent.
